Outreach

Upcoming Events:

Every Saturday from May-October, the Darwin R. Barker Library and Museum Association will be in Barker Commons for the Fredonia Farmer’s Market! Staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions, lead themed activities, sell merchandise, and promote all the wonderful services our organization has to offer. We hope you stop by!

Past Events:

On June 4, 1825—two centuries ago—Fredonia witnessed one of its most storied moments when an iconic figure in both the American and French Revolutions, General Marquis de Lafayette, visited the village. This summer there will be a commemoration of this historic event with the Lafayette Bicentennial Jubilee, a week-long celebration from May 30 to June 6.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation in making the Lafayette Bicentennial Jubilee possible.

Join us at The 1891 Fredonia Opera House for a special presentation with Barker Museum Curator Max Walters to learn how the Museum is preserving the legacy of grape production and processing with its online archive. Attendees also will view a never-before-seen promotional movie for Bedford Food Products Co. of Dunkirk, later to become part of Red Wing!

Celebrate New York State’s Path through History Weekend with a presentation about the Holland Land Company at the Leon Historical Society on June 15th at 11am. Barker Museum’s Archivist, Catherine Oag-Miller will lead the presentation. She has extensive knowledge of people and happenings of the local areas and is known for giving an engaging presentation. For those of you who may have Holland Land Co. on your Deed, bring a notebook and enjoy hearing Ms. Oag-Miller at the 1836 Church in Leon, NY. Light refreshments will be served.

The Sheridan Historical Society is sponsoring a local history lecture on June 13th at 3521 East Main St., Fredonia. Attendees will hear a presentation on the architectural history of the property by Barker Museum Curator, Maxwell Walters, learn about recent renovations to the home by current owner, John Lowther, and see a display of recent metal detection findings from Joe Conti and Jeff Adams.

We hope to see you there!
